L.A. Derby Dolls The Varsity Brawlers vs. San Diego's The Swarm

L.A. DERBY DOLLS DEBUT TWO NEW TEAMS. The Varsity Brawlers and San Diego Derby Dolls' The Swarm. Change is a good thing, especially if that involves hip checks and fishnet stockings. On February 28, the L.A. Derby introduce the two newest teams to Southern California's first and premiere banked track roller derby league. After a record-breaking season in 2008 in the new Doll Factory facility, the L.A. Derby Dolls are flying high and have enhanced the league with new teams to maintain the unparalleled athleticism and showmanship that fans have come to expect.

The Varsity Brawlers and the San Diego Derby Dolls' the Swarm join the Fight Crew, Sirens and the Tough Cookies as the fearsome five L.A. Derby Dolls teams brutalizing Southern California.  Formed late in 2008, the purple-clad Varsity Brawlers will inaugurate their first season by swatting away the power hits from the Swarm, the banked track all-star team from sister league, San Diego Derby Dolls.

Led by veteran Juana Beat'n and Long Island Lolita, the Varsity Brawlers balance their hotshot rookies with the bone-crushing blocks from experienced bruisers Eire Vengeance, Kammi Kazi and Razorslut.  Meanwhile, the Swarm from San Diego plan to attack the Brawlers with the smothering body blocks from the unofficial godmother of roller derby, Ivanna S. Pankin, alongside superstar skaters Trish the Dish, Bonnie D. Stroir, Steely Jan and captain Isabelle Ringer.  Will the Brawlers smoke out the Swarm or will the Swarm's sting send the Brawlers back to the locker room?

The L.A. Derby Dolls opened the 2009 season with a sold out, double overtime nail-biter courtesy of the Tough Cookies and the Fight Crew.  The two standout teams traded leads throughout and practically sent nearly 2,000 fans into the ER with heart palpitations as the game was finally settled in an overtime jam.

A national treasure, the L.A. Derby Dolls are one of a handful of roller derby leagues skating on the thrilling banked track.  The slants and slopes of the banked track induce panic from the audience as they witness skaters slamming into one another with the ferocity of unleashed Vegas tigers and speeds that would make a NASCAR driver blush.

Forget about Coachella!  L.A. Derby Dolls events feature the best live local music and entertainment.  Halftime performer for the upcoming event will be Barrio Tiger and the Vendor Village will be overflowing with alcohol from Alex’s Bar, gourmet cookies from Fresh Baked Cookies, custom-made clothing and other goodies you can’t find at Wal-Mart.
