Nearly 2,000 fans per event can agree that there is no better gift than the gift of roller derby. The L.A. Derby Dolls (LADD), Southern California’s premiere all-female banked track roller derby league, announced the last event of 2008 and the hottest present for the holiday. The LADD’s all-star team, the “L.A. Ri-Ettes,” will face some of the best roller derby skaters in the nation for a special holiday bout. Comprised of flat track skaters from Arizona to Seattle, “Santa’s Little Helpers” put the claws in Santa Claus as they face the punishing slopes of an unfamiliar banked track. Nationally recognized, the banked track L.A. Derby Dolls has revitalized the sport of roller derby. Unlike flat-track roller derby, the banked track launches skaters at kinetic speeds, demolishing one another to the cheers of frothing fans. Volunteer-run and organized by the skaters, for the skaters, the Derby Dolls highlight the do-it-yourself spirit in a new generation of roller derby. |
