The Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival was founded in 1990 to provide young professional musicians with a challenging musical environment in which to develop skills in orchestral, chamber music, and solo performance. The four-week orchestral fellowship program on the University of Houston campus is guided by distinguished artists from the Moores School of Music faculty, members of the Houston Symphony, and internationally recognized guests.

Performances include Shostakovich, Rach, a Russian music program is capped by Rachmaninoff's colorful and lush Second Symphony. The winner of the Mitchell Young Artists's competition performs as soloist with the TMFO. As American As...curated by violist Rita Porfiris, this faculty chamber music concert features works on an American theme, featuring the original chamber version of Copland's classic Appalachian Spring. Double Fantasy, a concert of duos and fantasies to round out the festival's summer chamber music offerings. Curated by Houston Symphony tubist David Kirk, this program offers an eclectic mix of offerings by Schumann, Elliott Carter, Sarasate, Telemann, Britten, and John Stevens. Capping of the orchestra season is Rossini, Brahms, Kilar, Respighi. Respighi's visceral tone poem, Pines of Rome includes Brahms' mighty Double Concerto featuring violinist Kyung Sun Lee and cellist Edward Arron.
