HOUSTON (November 18, 2008) - The Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) announces its creation of the Hurricane Ike Arts Fund to provide grants to professional
artists and arts organizations adversely affected by the Hurricane.
In response to the devastating effects of Hurricane Ike on impacted arts communities in Houston, The Hurricane Ike Arts Fund will provide artists
with one-time grants (up to $2,500). The grant funds will reimburse artists for expenses that can be documented and verified.
The HAA Post-Hurricane Survey Report - a survey of nearly 200 arts organizations and individual artists - assessed a critical need for recovery
assistance. Many artists and art organizations remain unable to hold performances and produce work because other resources are not yet available.
Report details are available on HAA's artist recovery blog, www.haahelps.com.
Contributions to the Hurricane Ike Arts Fund will be accepted through StubDog.com, a discount e-commerce site promoting events in Houston, Dallas and
Los Angeles. The ticket seller is partnering with HAA by contributing half of all sales proceeds from November 12 through December 12, 2008 and 100%
of proceeds for events contributed by their clients and distinguished with the 'Ike Relief' logo.
The grant represents HAA's dedication to Houston's Arts Sector, enabling the work of artists and arts groups to flourish by providing financial support
and leadership development. The Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) is uniquely positioned to offer emergency grants to HAA artists and arts group grantees,
thereby providing continued support for Houston's quality of life and tourism industry.
