HollyShorts is an organization devoted to showcasing the best and brightest short films from around the globe, advancing the careers of filmmakers through screenings, networking events, and various panel and forums. Last year’s festival featured appearances and short films from actors Jessica Biel, David Arquette and Josh Brolin, the festival awarded legendary filmmaker David Lynch the 2008 HollyShorts Visionary Award; Oscar winner Paul Haggis with the 2008 HollyShorts Outstanding Achievement in film award and fast-rising actress Paula Garces with the 2008 HollyShorts Future Star award. Festival in 2009 will showcase over 90 short films, music videos and webisodes from around the world. The 5th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival (August 6-13), presented by Royalty Rope Events, will open in Hollywood on Thursday, August 6, with a special spotlight on award-winning cinematographer Darren Lew. The event will showcase three of Lew's most celebrated short films: "Bugcrush," directed by Carter Smith (The Ruins), "Streak," directed by Demi Moore, and "Welcome," directed by Kirsten Dunst. The HollyShorts opening night event will also feature several additional acclaimed short film projects and awards. HollyShorts will present Eli Roth (Inglorious Basterds) with the inaugural HollyShorts Indie Film Visionary Award during the festival’s opening night celebration. With the honor, HollyShorts will screen for the first time in the U.S. Roth’s Director’s cut of Cabin Fever on Friday August 7 at Laemmle’s Sunset 5 during a special filmmakers showcase presented by Haydenfilms.
Ben Lyons, E! Entertainment Television personality and co-host of the nationally syndicated, “At the Movies,” will host the 5th annual HollyShorts Film Festival (HSFF) opening night celebration, which takes place on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the DGA Theatre in Hollywood. NBC’s “Open House” and “1st Look” correspondent, Viviana Vigil, will be the special guest presenter. Ben Lyons is one of the most sought after television personalities in Hollywood. At the age of 27, Ben is the resident film critic and an entertainment correspondent on E! Entertainment Television, co-host of Nickelodeon’s “My Family’s Got Guts” and co- host of televisions most popular and respected movie program, “At the Movies.” Ben is also a regular correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America.
With a resume consisting of over 11 notable short films, as well as a reel of commercials for Madison Avenue's biggest brands, Darren Lew is one of Hollywood's fastest-rising cinematographers. Most recently Lew teamed with Ashton Kutcher's Katalyst Media and Myspace Celebrity to shoot a slew of famous personalities making pledges of service to President Barack Obama. Directed and produced by Demi Moore, the video featured Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria Parker, Sean "Diddy" Combs, George Lopez, Ashlee Simpson, Courteney Cox, and Dakota Fanning, among many others, and was broadcast on the Oprah Winfrey show.
On Saturday, August 8, Royalty Rope Events will host the HollyShorts and actor Jimmy Jean-Louis's ("Heroes") non profit organization Hollywood Unites for Haiti's (HUFH) special VIP celebration at The Kress, a premiere dining and entertainment venue in Hollywood.

A full program of the Festival will be hosted by variety of high profile venues throughout Hollywood including DGA Theatre in Hollywood, 7920 Sunset Boulevard and The Kress in Hollywood, although the home of this year’s Festival will be @ Laemmle’s Sunset 5 in Hollywood where the panels, seminars and short’s screenings and awards will be held.
The festival will be closed with the Hollywood premiere of acclaimed independent film Knuckle Draggers Written and Directed by Alex Ranarivelo: Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Laemmle’s Sunset 5 in Hollywood.
