His tribute band Big Shot is truly a national-level act, featuring all world-class musicians who have not only toured with Billy Joel but have also worked with names like Michael Bolton, Hall & Oates, Huey Lewis, Diana Ross, Billy Joel's Broadway Musical, Richie Blackmore, Tower of Power, Nine Days, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Big Shot's performance is a 90-minute to two-hour show not to be believed, packed with hit after chart-topping hit in a high energy, interactive stage performance. The show almost exclusively covers Billy Joel's music, but the band will also surprise you with songs by Elton John, The Beatles, Journey, Paul McCartney, Marc Cohn, and many others.
Tonight's performance features special guest saxophonist Mark Rivera, who has been a member of Joel's band for the past 30 years. For the past 12 years, he has also had the privilege of working closely with Ringo Starr and some of the greatest musicians of all time in helping the former Beatle assemble his All Starr Band. Rivera is recognized around the world as one of the best musical directors in the industry. Over the years, heRivera has worked with Hall & Oates, Peter Gabriel (on his groundbreaking album So (1986), where Rivera played and arranged the horns for "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time"), Simon & Garfunkel, John Lennon, Billy Ocean, and Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh.
Tommy Byrnes has been Billy Joel's guitarist and musical director for the past 21 years. He was key in helping Joel and Twyla Tharp create the Tony Award-winning Broadway smash Movin' Out and served as the show's Musical Director during its long run. Byrnes has toured and collaborated with rockabilly legend Brian Setzer (co-writing Setzer's hard-hitting "Barbwire Fence"). His further credits include artists as diverse as Enrique Inglesias and Joan Jett. In addition, as a songwriter he's penned tunes for Mandy Moore and others.
Don't miss these special guests performing with the band about which Billy Joel himself declared: "They had a hard time convincing me it wasn't me. It's uncanny."
