Abigail, angry from being fired after having an affair with young John Proctor, accuses his wife Elizabeth of witchcraft. Proctor brings Elizabeth to court to confront the lie -- and it is here that the monstrous course of bigotry and deceit is terrifyingly depicted. Instead of saving his wife, John Proctor finds himself also accused of witchcraft and like many others, ultimately condemned.
