It's summer time and the Bunyan County Fair is approaching, the biggest thing that's happened in Bunyan Bay since the winter carnival snowplow parade. This year the Bunyan County Fair means one thing to Gunner and Clara Johnson, owners of a little bar called The Bunyan; The Miss Walleye Queen Competition. Bernice, the pretty waitress, sees this as her big chance to win Miss Walleye Queen, to be discovered, and more important, to have her face carved in butter at the Minnesota State Fair. The trouble begins when Gunner's wife, Clara, decides she also wants to win Miss Walleye Queen. Bigger trouble arrives when Gunner's estranged twin sister, Trigger, shows up to try to win the beauty pageant.

Fouls include the groaner foul, which is called when a player says something so punny, it makes the audience groan. Should that player be called for that offense, he or she must stand in the apology box and apologize to the audience. If the audience accepts, play continues. But, if the audience doesn’t accept, the actlete loses a point for their team.

Another important foul is the brown bag foul. Should an actlete, OR audience member say anything offensive, the foul is called and that offending person must wear a brown bag over their head for the remainder of the scene or game. ComedySportz prides itself on doing a clean show, and we always have plenty of bags on hand.

ComedySportz is fast paced and barely allows an audience to catch it’s breath before the next team is up and performing. Between each round, the audience votes on who they liked the best in that round. Points are awarded accordingly. At the end of the match, we discover who the winning team is and who comes in second. From giving the suggestions to voting, the audience is involved throughout the show. And occasionally, a lucky audience member is asked to come up and perform with the actletes. It’s a great way for someone celebrating a birthday to have a memory they can talk about for years.

ComedySportz is something that has to be experienced to be believed. Once you experience it, you’ll want to see it again and again. And, you can, because no two shows are ever alike! Episode 105 from Ryder Palmere’s show, Your Dog's Breakfast features the Bukowski tour, as well as this short film on the landmarking of Bukowski’s former bungalow on De Longpre.

"Haunts of a Dirty Old Man: Charles Bukowski's LA" spans Bukowski's personal city, from Skid Row to once-genteel Crown Hill, to Bukowski's favorite East Hollywood liquor store, the Pink Elephant.

Esotouric has made its name with true crime bus tours (Black Dahlia, Pasadena Confidential) and explorations of literary LA (Raymond Chandler, John Fante, James M. Cain). Now they turn their creative attentions to Bukowski, the prolific poet, novelist and screenwriter whose rough-hewn tales of boozing, wild women and rotten jobs never obscure the deep vein of sweetness and hope that runs through all his work. In one of his finest poems, he described this as a bluebird he kept caged, and that bluebird is been represented in the Bukbird, Esotouric's new logo by cartoonist Tony Millionaire, a pale blue version of his beloved alcoholic crow character.

This downtown double feature tour, hosted by Kim Cooper, Joan Renner and Richard Schave, is meant to bring alive the old ghosts and memories that cling to the streets and structures of the historic core, and is especially recommended for downtown residents curious about their neighborhood's neglected history.

The Hotel Horrors portion is a true crime and oddities tour featuring some of the wildest, weirdest, goriest and most memorable happenings in historic hotels like the Alexandria, Rosslyn, Barclay and Cecil. Get on the bus to see inside some of these legendary locales and find out where Night Stalker Richard Ramirez liked to stay and the hotel that saw a visit from the Skid Row Slasher, plus which hotel was the choice of Columbian drug mules with cocaine in their platform shoes, what lobby hosted a small scale anarchist riot and where two traveling chocolate salesmen laughed so hard they fell backwards out a window to their deaths. Plus, you'll learn the truth about the myth that Beth "The Black Dahlia" Short was last seen alive at the Biltmore and explore the fiery curse that repeatedly leveled the St. George Hotel. Also included are some light hearted stories to help the blood and gore go down.

The Main Street Vice portion is a social history tour celebrating the ribald, racy, raunchy old promenade where the better people simply did not travel, but kicks were had by all who did. Burlesque babes and dirty picture parlors, mummified western outlaws and old time tattoo parlors, wax museums and pawn brokers, "professors" offering sex lectures and magazine peddlers with nudie Marilyn Monroe calendars under the counter, sophisticated steak houses and nickel donut dives -- these were the pleasures and the people to be found along Main during the first half of the 20th century, a street that every Angeleno knew offered more (yet less) of what could be seen anywhere else. On this tour, we'll visit the scenes of some more unforgettable debaucheries and share stories of crime, smut, passion and commerce.

Climb aboard for a time travel journey back to the downtown that's not there anymore, and the surprising amount of gems that survive.

From doctors feelgood to second wives with pasts to crooked cops with a loathing for a mouthy PI, this tour has it all. Chandler's canonization of sin, wealth and sunshine on L.A.'s Westside fed the abiding myths of the American hard-boiled genre and play into the popular conception of the region.

Focusing on Chandler's middle period – "Farewell My Lovely," "Lady in the Lake" and a few short stories upon which these novels are built, "Bay City Blues" among them-- this tour will explore Chandler's take on the Westside, the real life rackets and murders which gave Bay City its wild reputation, and the elements of the old community that have survived layer upon layer of gentrification.

As the bus rolls from point to point, your guides will draw the lines between Chandler's life and his fiction, offering insight into his nomadic life with wife Cissy, the enigmatic redhead who appears in many forms in his short stories and novels.

The dream manifests at the turn of the 20th century as we explore how the climate was sold, the growth of the citrus industry and Tuberculosis hospitals. Then come the programmatic roadside architecture of the 1920s and 1930s and postwar V-8 visions fueled by gasoline and good climate (too bad you can't run an engine on it).

The Reyner Banham tour series is dedicated to revealing greater L.A.'s infrastructure, history, the built and natural environment, transportation corridors, drive-ins, attractions and oddities.

This tour will focus on the built environment along the Mother Road with an emphasis on old and historic alignments of Route 66 as well as signage.

Highlights of the Route 66 tour include:

E. Wald Ward Farm. Purveyors of fine preservatives and other delicacies. We will visit the barn store of this venerable Sierra Madre citrus family which has been in business of producing and selling the highest quality preserves from their orchards since 1918. We will tour the orchard and hear more about the history of this family from 4th generation member, Jeff Ward.

Aztec Hotel. Though really Mayan in decoration, this 1924 Robert Stacy Judd-designed gem in the San Gabriel Valley's crown is becoming the place again to get your kicks. Judd's buildings in Southern California were an important influence on Frank Lloyd Wright's Mayan houses.

Covina Bowl. Destination, gathering point, icon, masterpiece of thin membrane construction. The Covina Bowl is all this and more. Built in 1955, it helped define and create the community of Covina and environs through the 1960s and 1970s. As a roadhouse, nightclub, 24-hour bowling alley and diner, the sprawling entertainment center continues to serve the community beneath its landmark neon sign. The venue's history, shared with passengers by long time staff members, offers an engaging glimpse into life along the Mother Road.

Monrovia AKA Bungalotopia. We will trace the history of this great city through its early architecture at the heart of its historic core, and in the context of the larger real estate boom of the 1880s which gripped the whole Southland.

This five hour tour will include a complimentary coffee and cookies stop in the early afternoon. We recommend bringing a sandwich from Philippe's or a bag lunch as well.

Turning the West Side-centric notion of an L.A. architecture tour on its head - just like Banham's book Los Angeles: The Architecture Of Four Ecologies did for the historical monograph - the bus goes into areas not traditionally associated with the important, beautiful or significant, raising issues of preservation, adaptive reuse and the evolution of the city. The locations all speak to the power, mutability and reach of the Southern California Dream. Some of the tour stops are:

Pueblo del Rio (1942), the first African-American housing development in LA, is a fascinating public project designed by Paul Williams and Richard Neutra, among others. Its application of the International Style and mass-produced pre-fab methods to the needs of the growing Southern California population leaves room for considerable dialogue.

The Gage Mansion (1808). The oldest adobe structure in Los Angeles County, this fascinating home sits smack dab in the middle of a 65-year-old trailer park on the banks of the Rio Hondo River in Bell Gardens. Between the layers of context at this site is the history of migration and growth in the Southland, from Spanish land grants to the dust bowl to the vast waves of stucco suburbs.

The Clarke Estate (1919). A lost masterpiece by tilt-slab concrete architect Irving Gill, this Mission Revival-inspired dwelling features symbolic leaves pressed into the walls and feels like a time capsule from a simpler California.

The Downey Space Plant (1929-present). It began as airplane factory carved out of a castor bean field and grew to be the hub of North American Aerospace development, before being sold off in pieces in the early 2000s. Currently it's a motion picture sound stage. Is the only long-term solution for this awe-inspiring, 160-acre space a vertically-integrated condominium and retail development?

East Los Angeles Train Station (1932). A prominent location in the 1946 film "The Postman Always Rings Twice," it was built to deal with congestion and overcrowding in the existing downtown terminals. Currently a picturesque Mission-style ruin in the shadow of the wacky Citadel shopping center, will it rise again as the rail lines reassert themselves?

Johnie's Broiler (1958/2008). A cautionary tale about historic preservation, this beloved Downey diner with its landmark neon sign was illegally demolished by a renter who wanted to park use cars in its place. The site was barred from further commercial use due to public outcry, and is now being restored as a Bob's Big Boy.

The tour takes us from the human hustle of Main Street to the serene lobby of the Biltmore (the second-to-last place she was seen alive), to the newspaper offices and the Greyhound station where she checked her bags, and concludes at the site where her bisected body was found in Leimert Park and with a little known suspect who lived nearby.

From the few personal possessions she left behind to the friends who scarcely knew her, from the mass hysteria of the investigation with its fruitless leads, wacko suspects and false confessions, the tour reveals all that's known about this enigmatic black-haired girl who reinvented herself at whim, and shows how she came to be the unfortunate symbol of her time and place.

Downtown LA was depopulated fifty years ago by a series of decisions at the highest levels of local government. Now, in a seemingly overnight rebirth (actually ten+ years in the making), new residents are filling formerly commercial structures and new businesses are arriving. Where the old and new downtown meet, a thin red line runs, mapping out the desire lines of two sets of opposing forces. But the story is more complex and more interesting than the cartoon of Skid Row Crackhead versus Loft-Dwelling Yuppie, and this tour exists to put the many unique downtown communities into historical and cultural perspective.

Our tour begins in the corporate public spaces of Bunker Hill and Pershing Square, each the result of deliberate social engineering (the razing of old Bunker Hill; the elimination of green space that could be used to hide vice). We segue to the underappreciated yet extremely successful public spaces of the Historic Core and then to the emerging live/work community of The Old Bank District, where developer Tom Gilmore’s gentrification and the popular monthly Art Walk are bringing life to spaces which have been dead for decades. The tour concludes in the DIY loft spaces of the Arts District for a reception at the newly relocated Bedlam Gallery, in what was once the venue for the seminal music club, Al's Bar.

Having studied under architecture critic Reyner Banham in the mid-1980s, tour host Richard Schave has taken it upon himself to correct his teacher’s gross oversight of downtown Los Angeles, relegated to a dismissive coda in his seminal Los Angeles guidebook Los Angeles: A Study of Four Ecologies. Richard and his wife Kim Cooper work extensively with the history and lost cultures of downtown in their bus tours, in their work for Art Walk, on blogs including On Bunker Hill and 1947project, and through public lectures on the subject.

This tour has a significant walking component, down the stairs along Angels Flight, around Pershing Square, through several other pedestrian locations. It is broken up, but please be advised to be ready to stretch your legs.

A married hooker with a heart who sells her body along with perfume and nylons on the side. Later at a USO dance, Eugene meets Daisy...a beautiful southern belle. She is sweet, Catholic and virginal... Eugene falls in love during their first dance. From Rowena to Daisy all in the same day...his head is spinning. The other guys like Wykowski, Seldridge and Carney sling plenty of "bull" around the barracks. They spend their time drinking beer, fighting and in general being too loud and rowdy. Toomy finally flips out, gets piss drunk and pulls a loaded gun on Epstein. Arnold has a helluva time talking his way out of this situation…but he manages. Later when Eugene writes about Biloxi and these guys...He remembers them as the best damn friends a guy could have.

An Ultra Interactive Experience designed especially for Amateur Sleuths who are C.S.I. and Law & Order fans... with a twisted sense of humor!

You are literally in the middle of a live-action experience, conducting your OWN investigation into a homicide case. YOU are discovering and analyzing hidden evidence, YOU are interrogating the criminal element surrounding you [improvisational actors posing as suspects from the plot] - all the while being treated as a suspect yourself by an hysterical Homicide Detective [professional stand-up comedian] working the case.

Along with motive, means and opportunity, the plot meticulously unravels throughout the evening with a generous dose of humor, a lot of action and a series of clues and leads which take some real unsuspected turns.

Before the mystery comes to a dramatic conclusion, each of the guests are invited to hand in their own solutions. Then, the Homicide Detective, in a suspense-filled final scene, ties all the pieces together and exposes the murderer or murderers -- much to the surprise and delight of the guests. Our Grand Prize is then awarded to the most detail-oriented and accurate amateur sleuth.
